Selkirk Sparta Pros shine on day one of the Masters

From breakout performances to dominant debuts, day one of the Masters delivered on the action.

Clash of the Spartans

In the Spartan vs. Spartan matchup, Anouar Braham took down Rafa Lenhard in a tight 12-10, 11-7 scoreline. The match was a full display of athleticism, as both players hit strong drives and covered all corners of the court. Braham moves on to the Round of 32, where he will face the No. 13 seed, Zane Ford.

Lenhard advances in doubles

Rafa Lenhard paired up with Troy Akin in men’s doubles, and the duo has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. Lenhard and Akin have won gold at the PPA Challenger level and have battled through qualifiers on numerous occasions to reach the main draw. This time, after reaching the main draw, Lenhard and Akin took down the formidable pairing of Eric Roddy and James Delgado, 11-6, 11-5. They’ll face Hunter Johnson and Wyatt stone next.

Burkhardt ousts No. 5 seed

Selkirk’s Matt Burkhardt has delivered the upset of the tournament thus far, taking down No. 5 seed Jaume Martinez-Vich. The No. 70-ranked Burkhardt came through qualifiers the day before and recorded a main-draw win over Andrew Caldarella earlier that same morning before defeating Martinez-Vich in three games, 11–6, 2–11, 11–7. Burkhardt now faces another tough matchup against Grayson Goldin.

Kunimoto breezes through singles

Rising star Kiora Kunimoto had a strong showing in her first round singles match. Kunimoto played the 46-seed, Janet Liu, and dictated much of the match with her powerful drives and quickness at the kitchen line. After a 11-5, 11-2 win, Kunimoto will face Hannah Blatt in the round of 32.

Parenteau, Tardio dominate in debut

One of the most highly anticipated new partnerships for the 2026 season is Catherine Parenteau and Gabe Tardio. The duo delivered in their first performance together, earning a decisive win over Cason Campbell and Jade Rau, 11-3, 11-2. Parenteau and Tardio will face Pablo Tellez and Brooke Buckner in the next round, a team with extensive experience playing together in MLP.
